There are many programs, courses, and tools that are available to Veterans who want to start their own business. I am going to start highlighting some of them in the weekly Veteran Tools posts.. Today I am going to highlight a program that is doing some amazing things for Veterans and Military Families.
Syracuse University in conjunction with JPMorgan Chase has launched the Institute for Veterans and Military Families (IVMF).
The mission of the IVMF is to fully leverage the intellectual, human and social capital of higher education, in service to America’s veterans and their families. To this end, the IVMF develops and nurtures a community of interdisciplinary scholarship—including the arts, humanities, social sciences, business, medicine, education and law—positioned to investigate and confer insight into the social, psychological and economic issues impacting this community.
What does that mean? It means IVMF wants to help Veterans in as many ways as possible. They have a multitude of programs that are aimed at helping Veterans and their families start businesses. The programs are at no cost for those that qualify. Some of the programs include:
- Entrepreneurship Bootcamp for Veterans with Disabilities, (EBV)
- Entrepreneurship Bootcamp for Veterans’ Families, (EBV-F)
- Veteran Women Igniting the Spirit of Entrepreneurship (V-WISE)
- Operation Endure & Grow (E&G) for Guard/Reserve members and family
- Operation Boots to Business: From Service to Startup (B2B) for Transitioning Service Members
- VetNet Entrepreneur– a Google+ powered channel that offers training as well as weekly public Hangouts designed to let Veterans Learn about Entrepreneurship and ask questions.
Both Kristina Guerrero from Episode 15 and Angela Cody-Rouget from Episode 22 have used IVMF programs to help get their businesses off the ground. If you have a business, or if you want to start a business, I think it would be worth your time to check out what they offer. What do you think? Did you know about IVMF? Have you taken advantage of what they have to offer?
