David Grega is the Co-owner and winemaker at Carlotta Cellars and Broken Arrow Wines. He is an Army Veteran who served in Iraq.
David talks about growing up in an upper middle class family in Northern California and attending private prep school. He was never a great student and decided he wanted to do something that matters. He enlisted in the Army after graduation and elected to serve in combat arms. After completing basic training, he was assigned to the 3rd Infantry Division and went to a unit that was being created from the ground up. He deployed to Iraq and spent over a year patrolling one of the deadliest roads in the country at the time.
After leaving the Army, David knew he wanted to work for himself. He has an interest in wine and moved back to Northern California. He started a blog focused on the wine industry and was able to make valuable connections. On a whim, someone offered him surplus fruit and he started making wine. David connected with another winemaker, they pooled their resources, and Carlotta Cellars was born. David speaks on the value of learning from your failures and not giving up. I think he sums it up in this quote:
The only reason I am still around now is because I have never been afraid to fail or make a mistake” – David Grega
David talks about the struggles combat veterans face, and what it taught him about the power of the mind. He says if the mind can have powerful negative effects, it can also have extremely impactful positive effects. He has chosen to focus on the creative and positive impacts his mind can make. I personally can’t wait to drop an order and try a bottle of his wine.
