I am excited to be able to share with the Command Your Business community. I recently transitioned from the Army after six years as a Combat Medic. My first couple of years in the Army were serving in 7-10 Cavalry, 4th Infantry Division, including a deployment to Afghanistan 2010-2011. After my time in 4 ID, I moved to Fort Belvoir, VA where I served as the Operations NCO, for U.S. Army Element-South, Troop Command providing support to the Soldiers of the Fort Belvoir Community Hospital and Northern Regional Medical Command.
I enlisted in the Army a bit later in life having spent time in the corporate world originally as a trader at the Chicago Board Options Exchange and as Director of Operations for IDT Global Services managing customer service and sales call center operations for a variety of internal and external customers. Serving in the military was something that had always been of interest to me and in 2009 the timing was right for me to finally take the move.
I have always been interested in the idea of entrepreneurship and some of my best memories of deployment is sitting on a hilltop and talking with others about ideas they were interested in pursuing once out of the Army. When other Soldiers learned of my background in finance they would seek me out to get an opinion on their ideas. When I moved into a desk position in the Army I really enjoyed the opportunity to bring my previous experience, in particular with customer service, into the military. I really enjoyed the opportunity to assist Soldiers and doing what I could to solve their problems. I also was selected to establish and manage the social media presence for our Battalion. This time made me realize that when I would complete my time in the Army that the startup world is where I belong.
I love to connect with communities and engage on social networks. I am currently working on building a customer support and marketing agency. I look forward to connecting with the Command Your Business community on Twitter @robertwilliger or elsewhere online.
